[How we work](https://arbocode.com/process)

Freight brokers, third-party logistics providers, carriers and shippers operate on EDI transactions, carrier APIs with no shared format, and drivers or warehouse staff who often have poor connectivity. Software that overlooks any of the three tends to run perfectly in a demo and then break down on the dock.

We build and integrate transportation and warehouse management systems, process EDI 204 (tender), 214 (status update) and 210 (invoice) transactions to the format each trading partner actually requires, and aggregate carrier tracking data from project44, FourKites and direct carrier APIs into one visibility feed instead of a dozen incompatible ones.

Field-facing tools, proof of delivery capture, driver apps, warehouse scanning, are built offline-first from the start, since a driver losing signal in a warehouse yard or a rural delivery route is the normal case.

The problem

## The hard parts of logistics & supply chain software

- ### EDI transactions vary by trading partner despite the standard
EDI 204, 214 and 210 define the transaction type, but shippers, brokers and carriers each implement segments and qualifiers slightly differently, so a feed that validates against the spec can still get rejected by a specific partner.
- ### Real-time visibility is fragmented across carrier systems
No single API covers every carrier a shipper or broker works with. Aggregating tracking data from project44, FourKites and direct carrier feeds into one accurate view takes real integration work, not a single API call.
- ### WMS and TMS systems rarely share a data model
Warehouse management and transportation management systems are often bought from different vendors years apart, and getting inventory, order and shipment data to agree between them is a recurring integration problem.
- ### Proof of delivery has to work without a signal
Drivers capture photos and signatures in loading docks, rural routes and underground garages where connectivity drops out, so the capture has to work offline and sync later without losing data.
- ### Route optimization has to respect hours-of-service limits
An optimized route that ignores FMCSA hours-of-service rules is not a usable route; driver availability windows have to be a hard constraint inside the optimization itself.
- ### Freight audit and payment reconciliation eats staff time
Matching carrier invoices against rate agreements and actual shipment data by hand is slow and error-prone at any real volume, and discrepancies often go unclaimed simply because nobody has time to chase them.

What we build

## Logistics & Supply Chain systems we build

- ### TMS and WMS integration
Integration or custom extension of transportation and warehouse management systems so shipment, inventory and order data agree across both instead of requiring manual reconciliation.
- ### EDI transaction processing
EDI 204, 214, 210 and 990 handling built to each trading partner's specific implementation guide, with validation before submission to catch formatting issues before a partner rejects the transaction.
- ### Carrier API aggregation for real-time visibility
A unified tracking feed built from project44, FourKites and direct carrier APIs (FedEx, UPS and others), so shippers and customers see one accurate status instead of checking multiple portals.
- ### Proof-of-delivery mobile apps
Offline-first driver and field apps that capture signatures, photos and delivery exceptions locally and sync automatically once connectivity returns.
- ### Route optimization engines
Multi-stop routing that treats hours-of-service limits, delivery windows and vehicle capacity as hard constraints, not suggestions the dispatcher has to override manually.
- ### Fleet management and telematics integration
Integration with Samsara or Geotab telematics for vehicle location, fuel and maintenance data, feeding into the same dispatch and route planning tools drivers already use.
- ### Freight audit and payment reconciliation
Automated matching of carrier invoices against rate agreements and shipment records, surfacing discrepancies for recovery instead of letting them go unclaimed.

## Regulations and standards we design for

- FMCSA Electronic Logging Device mandate and hours-of-service rules governing driver availability and route planning.
- DOT safety data reporting requirements, including CSA scoring inputs for motor carriers.
- C-TPAT supply chain security program guidelines for shippers and carriers moving cross-border freight.
- 49 CFR hazardous materials transportation rules for shipments carrying regulated hazmat.
- GDPR requirements for shipment and customer data tied to deliveries within the EU.

## Platforms we integrate with

- EDI 204, 214, 210 and 990 transactions via a value-added network
- project44 and FourKites for real-time freight visibility
- FedEx, UPS and direct carrier tracking APIs
- Samsara and Geotab telematics
- Manhattan Associates and other warehouse management systems
- McLeod and MercuryGate transportation management systems
- CBP Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) for customs filings

## EDI processing that trading partners actually accept

We build EDI 204 tender, 214 status update and 210 invoice handling against each trading partner's specific implementation guide rather than a generic version of the standard, since segment usage and qualifier codes vary enough between shippers and carriers to cause rejections even on technically valid transactions. Validation runs before submission, and rejected transactions route to a queue with the specific error rather than disappearing into a retry loop.

## Real-time visibility across carriers that do not share one API

We aggregate tracking data from project44, FourKites and direct carrier APIs into a single, normalized shipment status feed, resolving conflicting timestamps and status codes between sources instead of just displaying whichever feed updates first. Exception handling (a missed pickup, a delayed transit) triggers alerts based on the aggregated view, not one carrier's raw feed.

## Proof of delivery capture with offline-first field apps

Driver apps capture signature, photo and delivery exception data locally on the device and queue it for sync, so a dead zone in a warehouse yard or a rural delivery stop does not mean lost proof of delivery. Route optimization treats hours-of-service limits and delivery windows as hard constraints during route generation, not a compliance check run after the route is already planned.

FAQ

## Logistics & Supply Chain software FAQs

Can you build EDI 204 and 214 integration for a specific shipper we work with?

Yes. We build to that shipper's specific implementation guide, since two shippers using the same EDI transaction type still often require different segment formatting and qualifier codes. We validate transactions before submission to reduce rejection rates.

How do you combine tracking data from project44, FourKites and direct carrier APIs?

We normalize each source into one shipment status model and resolve conflicts (different timestamps or status codes for the same event) using rules based on source reliability and recency, so shippers and customers see one accurate status rather than three competing ones.

Do proof-of-delivery apps work without cell signal?

Yes. Signature, photo and exception capture happen locally on the device and queue for upload, syncing automatically once connectivity returns. Drivers never lose delivery confirmation data because of a dead zone.

Can route optimization account for hours-of-service limits automatically?

Yes. We build hours-of-service limits, delivery windows and vehicle capacity as hard constraints in the optimization engine itself, so a generated route is legally drivable rather than something a dispatcher has to manually adjust after the fact.

How long does a TMS and WMS integration project typically take?

A single integration connecting an existing TMS and WMS for shipment and inventory data typically takes ten to sixteen weeks, depending on how many custom fields and legacy data formats need mapping on either side.
