[How we work](https://arbocode.com/process)

Motion graphics means built animation instead of filmed footage. That covers explainer videos assembled from illustration and type, kinetic typography for ad copy, logo animation for an intro sting, and the interface micro-interactions a product uses for loading states, transitions and empty screens. Anything involving a camera belongs to our video editing team, and anything drawn or built frame by frame belongs to us.

A meaningful share of this work never ships as a standalone video at all. Interface animation, a button state, a success confirmation, a loading sequence, gets designed in Figma or After Effects and exported as a Lottie file, a lightweight animation format that renders natively inside a React or Next.js front end without the file size or performance cost of an embedded video. We work directly with the engineering team building the product so the animation ships as part of the component, not bolted on afterward.

Explainer videos follow the same discipline: a script and storyboard reviewed before animation starts, so a client is not paying to redo full scenes after the fact because the narrative did not land.

## Problems we are usually brought in to solve

- Our product explains itself badly in text, and a static screenshot does not show what actually happens
- Our interface feels flat because every state change is instant with no visual feedback
- We need a logo animation for video intros and outros and do not have one
- Our ad copy needs kinetic type treatment and we only have static graphics
- Engineering keeps building animation from scratch instead of working from motion specs

What we deliver

## Motion Graphics services

- ### Animated explainer videos
Script, storyboard and full animation for a product or concept explainer, built from illustration and type rather than filmed footage.
- ### UI micro-interaction design
Loading states, success and error confirmations, and transition animations designed to match your interface and exported as Lottie files for engineering.
- ### Logo animation
A short animated version of an existing logo for video intros, outros and app splash screens, built from the identity system already in place.
- ### Kinetic typography for ads
Animated type treatments for social and video ad copy, built for the platforms where static text alone gets scrolled past.
- ### Data and process animation
Animated diagrams that show a process or a data flow moving, for a pitch deck, a product page or a sales presentation.
- ### Motion design system
A documented set of timing, easing and transition rules so animation feels consistent across a product instead of varying screen by screen.

You receive

## Deliverables

- Final rendered video files in required formats and resolutions
- Lottie JSON files for interface animation
- Storyboard and script for explainer videos
- Motion specs (timing and easing values) for engineering handoff
- Source project files

How we work

## Our motion graphics process

1. ### Script and concept
For explainer videos, a script and narrative structure agreed before any animation work starts, so the story is right before the visuals are built around it.
2. ### Storyboard
Frame-by-frame storyboards or, for UI animation, annotated screen states, reviewed and approved before full animation begins.
3. ### Style frames
One or two fully designed frames in the final visual style, agreed before the full piece is animated, so style changes do not require redoing finished work.
4. ### Animation
Full animation build against the approved storyboard and style, with a working cut delivered for review rather than a single final render.
5. ### Sound and final polish
Sound design or licensed music, timing refinement and final export, or for UI animation, packaging as a Lottie file with motion specs.

## Interface animation as an engineering handoff, not just a video

Motion in a product interface only works if engineering can actually implement it without hand-coding every keyframe. We design interface animation in Figma, refine timing in After Effects where needed, and export the result as Lottie, a JSON-based animation format that a React or Next.js app renders directly through a lightweight player library.

Alongside the file, we hand over motion specs: duration, easing curve and trigger condition for each animation, so an engineer implementing it understands the intent rather than reverse-engineering a rendered clip.

## Storyboarding before animation, not after

The most expensive mistake in an explainer video project is discovering the narrative does not work after full animation is already built, since redoing an animated scene costs far more than redoing a storyboard frame.

We hold the script and storyboard as a hard gate: nothing gets animated until the narrative structure is approved, and style frames confirm the visual direction before it is applied across every scene.

Budget

## What drives cost and timeline

- ### Length and scene count
A ninety-second explainer with six scenes takes meaningfully more time than a fifteen-second animated logo sting.
- ### Animation complexity
Simple shape and type motion is faster to produce than character animation or detailed illustrated scenes with layered movement.
- ### Number of interface states
A single loading animation is a narrower scope than a full set of micro-interactions across a product's error, success and empty states.
- ### Sound and voiceover
Custom sound design or a hired voiceover artist adds a production step beyond the animation itself.

Compliance

## Standards we design and build to

None of these is a certification or attestation held by this agency. They are the standards we design and build client systems to, so your own audit or assessment starts from a sound base.

- ### GDPR / UK GDPR
Personal data handled on a lawful basis, with data minimisation and a documented retention policy.
- ### HIPAA safeguards
Administrative, physical and technical safeguards applied where a system touches protected health information.
- ### PCI DSS scope reduction
Card payment flows tokenised through a certified processor so cardholder data never touches your systems.
- ### SOC 2 readiness
Access control, change management and audit logging built in from day one, ready for a client's own SOC 2 audit.
- ### WCAG 2.2 AA
Keyboard navigation, colour contrast and screen-reader labelling checked against the AA success criteria.
- ### OWASP ASVS
Authentication, session handling and input validation reviewed against the Application Security Verification Standard.

We list certifications only when they are real and current. [See our security practices →](https://arbocode.com/security)

FAQ

## Questions about Motion Graphics

What is the difference between motion graphics and video editing?

Motion graphics is built animation: illustration, type and shapes assembled and moved frame by frame, with no camera involved. Video editing works with footage that was filmed, a demo recording, a webinar, a testimonial. A single project sometimes uses both, for example an edited testimonial video with an animated logo intro.

Can animation be exported for our React or Next.js product?

Yes. Interface animation is designed to export as Lottie, a JSON animation format that renders natively in a React or Next.js front end through a lightweight player, without the file size cost of an embedded video. We hand off both the file and the timing specs behind it.

How long does an animated explainer video take to produce?

It depends on length and animation complexity, but a typical ninety-second explainer runs through script, storyboard, style frames and full animation over several weeks. Simpler pieces like a logo animation or a single UI micro-interaction turn around faster.

Do you write the script for an explainer video?

Yes, working from your product positioning and key messages. We can also animate a script you already have, though we will flag pacing issues, like a scene that tries to cover too much for its runtime, before committing to a storyboard.

Can you animate our existing logo without redesigning it?

Yes. Logo animation works from your current identity system as-is; we do not redesign the mark itself as part of this service. If the logo needs redesign work first, that sits with our branding team.

Do you provide voiceover or music for explainer videos?

We can source licensed music and coordinate a professional voiceover artist as part of the production, or work with voice or music assets you already have licensed. Either adds a production step and is scoped separately from the animation itself.
