How we work

Vue 3 combines an HTML-like template syntax with the Composition API, which organizes component logic around concerns instead of lifecycle methods. This gives Vue a lower entry barrier than React or Angular for developers from server-rendered templating backgrounds, while it still supports the same reactive, component-based architecture for larger applications.

We reach for Vue when a team wants a framework opinionated enough to keep several developers consistent, without the ceremony of Angular's dependency injection and module system. Paired with Pinia for state management and Nuxt for routing and server rendering, Vue covers the same ground as a React plus Next.js stack, with a smaller set of decisions to make along the way.

Fit

When Vue.js is the right choice, and when it is not

Good fit

  • The team includes developers coming from server-rendered templating (PHP, Rails, Django templates) who will ramp up faster on Vue's template syntax than JSX
  • You want single-file components that keep template, script and style together, which simplifies code review for smaller teams
  • You are building a Nuxt application and want server rendering, file-based routing and static generation without assembling that scaffolding yourself
  • You are progressively adding interactivity to an existing server-rendered application, since Vue can mount into a single element without taking over the whole page

Consider something else

  • You are hiring at scale across markets where the React talent pool is deeper; Vue roles take longer to fill in some regions, even though skilled developers pick it up quickly
  • The project needs a mature native mobile counterpart sharing code with the web app: React Native's ecosystem and tooling are more established than Vue's cross-platform options
  • The team is already deep in the React ecosystem on other products and introducing a second frontend framework adds maintenance surface without a clear technical reason
  • You need the largest possible library ecosystem for a narrow, uncommon integration; React's ecosystem has more prebuilt options for edge cases

What we build

What we build with Vue.js

  • Composition API application architecture

Composables (Vue's equivalent of React hooks) organized around business logic, shared across components without prop drilling, keeping components focused on markup.

  • Pinia state management

Typed stores for cross-cutting application state, replacing the older Vuex pattern with a simpler, more directly typed API.

  • Nuxt-based server rendering and static generation

File-based routing, server rendering and hybrid static generation for content-heavy sites and applications that need SEO alongside interactivity.

  • Single-file component design systems

Component libraries with scoped styles and documented props, structured so a new developer can read a single .vue file top to bottom and understand it.

  • Incremental modernization of legacy templating

Mounting Vue components into existing PHP, Rails or Django server-rendered pages to add interactivity without a full frontend rewrite.

Ecosystem

Libraries and tools we pair it with

  • Pinia for state management
  • Nuxt for routing, SSR and static generation
  • VueUse for a library of ready-made composables
  • Vitest and Vue Testing Library for component tests
  • VeeValidate with Zod for form validation
  • Tailwind CSS for styling
  • Vite as the build tool underlying both Vue and Nuxt

Composition API versus the older Options API

Vue 2 organized components around an Options API, grouping code by type (data, computed, methods) rather than by feature. Vue 3's Composition API groups code by what it does, so all the logic for one feature (a search filter, a form's validation) can live together in one composable function regardless of whether it touches state, computed values or lifecycle hooks.

We write new Vue projects entirely in the Composition API with `<script setup>` syntax, which removes most of the remaining boilerplate. Projects still on Vue 2 or the Options API can adopt the Composition API incrementally, component by component, since Vue 3 supports both styles in the same codebase during a migration.

When Nuxt is worth the extra layer

Plain Vue with Vite is enough for an application that lives entirely behind a login and does not need to rank in search. Nuxt earns its place once server rendering, file-based routing or static generation matter, which is most public-facing sites and any application that mixes a marketing surface with an authenticated product.

Nuxt's server routes also give a Vue project a place to put API endpoints and Server Actions equivalent to what Next.js offers on the React side, so a team does not need a separate backend service for simple mutations.

  • Plain Vue and Vite for authenticated internal tools with no SEO requirement
  • Nuxt for anything public-facing, content-driven or mixing marketing and app surfaces
  • Server routes in Nuxt cover simple mutations without standing up a separate API

FAQ

Questions about Vue.js

Is it harder to hire Vue developers than React developers?

In most markets, yes, simply because the applicant pool is smaller, though the skill itself transfers quickly from React or Angular experience. We factor hiring pool size into the recommendation when a client plans to build an internal team alongside us, not just when we are staffing the initial build.

Should an existing Vue 2 application move to Vue 3?

Vue 2 reached end of active development, so new features, security patches and ecosystem library support now target Vue 3 only. We usually recommend migrating during a planned refactor rather than as a standalone project, since Vue 3 supports the Options API alongside the Composition API and the move can happen incrementally.

What is Nuxt and do we need it to use Vue?

Nuxt is a framework built on Vue that adds server rendering, file-based routing and static generation, the same relationship Next.js has to React. You do not need it for an authenticated internal tool with no SEO requirement, but most public-facing Vue projects use it rather than assembling routing and rendering by hand.

Can Vue and React coexist in the same organization?

Technically yes, though we generally advise against running both in active development inside one product for the added hiring and maintenance surface. It is common and reasonable for an organization to run Vue on one product line and React on another when each was chosen for good reasons at the time.

Does Vue support TypeScript well?

Yes, Vue 3 was rewritten in TypeScript and the Composition API's function-based structure types more naturally than the older Options API did. We default to TypeScript on Vue projects the same way we do on React and Angular projects, for the same refactor-safety reasons.
